So the UK were supposed to be released from restrictions on June 21st 2021. However, the Delta (Indian) variant has caused so much concern that the UK government are delaying for another month. The reason? So called projected infections rising (in summer!) and yet, no seeming hospitalizations or deaths? Is this because of the vaccination programme. Most likely, but time will tell. Additionally, here is the latest ONS data of deaths from w/e 28 May 2021.

I have to say, looking at the data, I do ask, why are we not unlocking. Do we need more time to look at the data, and If there is a third wave, will the link between infections and hopitalisations and deaths be drastically cut? You would hope so. But let us see the outcome. Personally, given the vaccination rate of the UK I don’t see a reason to not unlock. In theory with natural resistance and vaccinations combined, the UK must surely be close to ‘herd immunity’… unless the vaccine’s don’t work as well as thought? Let’s hope that is not the case.
